NewsGator Technologies Releases New Version of Premier Platform for Enterprise RSS Management

A behind-the-firewall, enterprise-class offering, NGES provides organizations with the most complete and flexible platform for finding, distributing and sharing only the most relevant RSS feeds across groups and organizations. With NGES, employees can access internal and external RSS feeds within Microsoft Outlook, the full range of mobile devices, corporate portals, and the Web without having to download any client-side software. Enhancements within NGES 1.3 include improvements in usability, integration with Microsoft Sharepoint, new collaboration capabilities, additional knowledge management and administrative features, and globalization.

"A key business issue facing enterprises today is finding the most effective way to manage the information flow of both external and internal content across their organization," said Robert McCullough, program manager, business applications and commerce, Yankee Group. "RSS has emerged as a viable platform for CIOs and CKOs to provide employees with relevant information and collaboration tools, which can directly impact efficiency and improve productivity. NewsGator Enterprise Server helps enterprises become more efficient by centrally managing subscriptions, deploying across platforms without installing client software, and minimizing bandwidth usage."

As companies and employees struggle with information overload, RSS has quickly become a powerful business tool to help them gain control over how content is managed and distributed throughout the organization. Access to accurate and relevant information is critical to making the right business decisions and communicating with customers in a timely manner. Companies in several industries, including pharmaceutical, retail, legal, consulting, human resources, financial services and public relations have dramatically improved employee productivity by deploying NewsGator's enterprise-focused RSS solutions.

"A lot of valuable, timely information gets lost in email," said Elizabeth Ellis, partner and Chief Knowledge Officer at Toronto based law firm Goodman and Carr, LLP. "With NewsGator Enterprise Server, practice groups can easily see relevant feeds from blogs, news and internal systems on our Microsoft Sharepoint Portal. It allows the attorneys and paralegals to find information more quickly, which will lead to more billable hours and better client service."

"With the rapid growth of both internal and external feeds, companies are quickly realizing that the management and distribution of that content should be handled on a centralized basis," said J.B. Holston, president and CEO of NewsGator. "By working closely with customers since the initial unveiling of NewsGator Enterprise Server last fall, we have improved the knowledge management, collaboration, and administrative tools and added significant functional enhancements that enable businesses to quickly improve productivity and the delivery of information throughout their organizations."

New Features

NewsGator Enterprise Server 1.3 includes the following new capabilities:

Knowledge Management and Relevancy

-- SharePoint Team Portal integration -- This feature enables the publishing of a set of feeds to a Microsoft SharePoint portal site that members of a group can view. -- Group Clippings -- This knowledge management feature allows a member of an internal team or group to take important items, add a comment, and drop them into a folder, which is then turned into an RSS feed to which others can subscribe. This increases productivity by enabling many to benefit from the work and effort undertaken by an individual. -- Refined article and feed searching -- Users can customize searches for only internally generated/published content (versus all content indexed internally) and define SmartFeeds (keyword searches) in the same way. -- Feed creation from email -- Users can easily turn emails into RSS feeds. -- Improved user interface -- New look and feel, improved navigation and support for favicons (icons from feed publishers).
