NewsGator Launches New Version of Premier Desktop RSS Aggregator NetNewsWire for Mac OS X

This marks the first new release of the product since NewsGator's acquisition of NetNewsWire developer Ranchero Software in October of 2005. First released in 2002, NetNewsWire's usability, deep feature set and continuous innovation have generated widespread adoption by Mac users. The online synchronization in NetNewsWire 2.1 allows users to work seamlessly between the rich Mac desktop application, the web-based NewsGator Online, the PC-based FeedDemon, the recently announced NewsGator Mobile applications, and other NewsGator Online-enabled clients to access RSS content.

"RSS is truly a transformative technology that is quickly reaching the masses because of how effectively it helps people manage news and information," said Brent Simmons, NetNewsWire creator, and NewsGator client product architect. "NetNewsWire users have often asked that their feeds and read/unread status go where they go, from office to home and place to place. By integrating NetNewsWire and NewsGator Online, users can now move easily between our feature-rich desktop products as well as our flexible, web-based solution. Our mission is to make it as easy as possible for Mac users to get all the productivity benefits RSS offers."

New features in NetNewsWire 2.1 include:

-- Synchronization with the leading online RSS platform - Seamless synchronization of subscriptions and "read" status with NewsGator Online, so articles marked as "read" on NetNewsWire will show up as read on NewsGator Online, NewsGator Inbox, NewsGator Mobile, FeedDemon, and any other product that uses the NewsGator Online API; -- Universal binary - NetNewsWire 2.1 runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs; -- Performance enhancements - Improvements to feed parsing and processing, saving feed information, and tabbed browsing make for a snappier reading experience; -- Sorting subscriptions by attention - Now you can sort your feeds by what you pay the most (and the least) amount of attention to - perfect for finding information that is relevant to you; and, -- Post to del.icio.us - New command allows you to send posts to del.icio.us using your choice of application.

"The best part about NetNewsWire is that it syncs with NewsGator Online," said Om Malik, senior writer for Business 2.0 and editor of the popular GigaOm blog. "That is crucial, because I have multiple computers and tend to use them at different times of the day. NetNewsWire 2.1 exceeds my expectations from a synchronization and performance perspective."

"NetNewsWire is a great example of what a Macintosh application should be: user-focused, innovative, logical, fast," said Dave Nanian, founder of Shirt Pocket. "Its new NewsGator synchronization means your feeds (and read status) are available wherever you are -- home, office, on the road -- and so much faster than before that you'll be tempted to subscribe to a lot more feeds."

Pricing and Availability

NetNewsWire 2.1 is available for $29.95 and can be purchased at www.newsgator.com .

Existing NetNewsWire customers will receive a free two-year paid subscription to NewsGator Online.
