KnowNow and Syndic8 Partner to Offer Live, Continuously Updated RSS Feeds for Subscribers; Leading RSS Feed Directory Licenses and Offers KnowNow's SpeedReader to its Community

SUNNYVALE, Calif. & SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- KnowNow Inc., a leading provider of event-driven integration solutions, and Syndic8 (http://www.syndic8.com), the world's largest directory of syndicated news feeds, today announced a strategic relationship that will deliver the power of live RSS updates to Syndic8's user base. Under the terms of the agreement, Syndic8 has licensed the KnowNow 3 Web Syndication Solution with SpeedReader, the industry's first Web-based, event-driven RSS aggregator.

Syndic8 offers the world's largest directory of syndicated news feeds. Syndic8 catalogs more than 100,000 sources of syndicated news feeds in 47 different languages--from Afrikans to Welch--representing the collaborative efforts of more than 11,000 participants worldwide. Syndic8's searchable subject index allows visitors to easily find news feeds fitting their topic of interest and to read the most recent headlines from each source.

KnowNow 3 Web Syndication Solution with SpeedReader provides live, continuously updated RSS feeds--which KnowNow calls 'channels'--without the need to install software. It also comes with a branded RSS reader called SpeedReader that launches directly from a Web page. Unlike typical RSS readers that periodically check feeds for updates and then store them on the user's local disk drive, SpeedReader continuously monitors feeds for new information and delivers it immediately. In fact, multiple channels can be made active so that the headlines flow together into the preview pane as they are updated. Many users find this ideal for monitoring a number of different subject areas.

"Having brought together the world's largest community of user-contributed and reviewed feeds and content makes Syndic8 the destination location for more than 11,000 registered users and an untold number of daily visitors to keep abreast of subjects that are directly relevant to them," said Jeff Barr, founder and chief developer, Syndic8. "KnowNow 3 Web Syndication Solution with SpeedReader will allow Syndic8 to break new ground in how this information is delivered. For the first time our users will be able to receive information relevant to them through dynamic, live channels without having to wait for scheduled updates and without having to download any software on their computers."

KnowNow's Syndic8-branded SpeedReader provides Syndic8 with additional revenue streams by allowing the sale of select channel placement (featured RSS feeds) within SpeedReader, and by providing advertising space on SpeedReader's interface. Other KnowNow 3 Web Syndication Solution with SpeedReader features include:

--Branded RSS reader - intended for "free distribution," localization and user loyalty applications;

--No download, no user-install - allows users to launch the application directly from a Web page or desktop shortcut;

--A familiar 'e-mail' style layout - for quick user adoption;

--Pre-set channels - enhance brand and marketing efforts that also makes RSS easy for anyone to use;

--Relevancy and recency - headlines update themselves without the user having to hit "refresh." Also improves 'stickiness' because news remains current;

--Support for anonymous and logged-in users - high value reach includes users who prefer not to register;

--Push - server model supports context-sensitive high value 'push' information or advertising. Advertising effectiveness improves through enhanced relevancy; potential customers receive real-time product or service alerts and notifications.

"For all of the benefits RSS has brought to both the enterprise and the general information consumer, it still suffers from inefficiencies which can hinder its real promise," said Ron Rasmussen, CTO and vice president of product development, KnowNow, Inc. "KnowNow 3 Web Syndication Solution with SpeedReader lets consumers receive information live, in its most useful form. We're thrilled to partner with Syndic8, one of the leaders in the aggregation space, and excited that they've opted to offer KnowNow's solution to keep its subscribers loyal and ahead of the RSS curve."
