HERE ARE 10 EASY STEPS TO A FREE EDUCATION :
1. DEVELOP A FONDNESS FOR OLD TEXTBOOKS. VERY seldom do the basics of any discipline change. From marketing to economics to statistics, look for public libraries which are culling their business sections. There is a goldmine of business education to be had for pennies on the dollar.
2. Online knowledge bases are a wealth of information on applications and information you access regularly. Every ISP has a knowledge base that will keep you current on the latest computer applications. Be disciplined about pursuing your area of interest on these sites regularly.
3. Spend 5-10 hours a week in a public library’s reference section, especially if you are not currently employed! Decide upon a course of education, and commit to pursuit of it for one, three or six months. The goal is to acquire a thorough grounding in your chosen subject.
4. On the internet, search for technical terms under the “Images” tag of any search engine. You will enter the side door of many online college courses, business texts and public documents.
5. Obtain and read The Federal Register.
6. Read trade and industry publications. They provide access to exactly what people in any given industry are currently thinking and learning.
7. Learn to use EDGAR, the Securities and Exchange Commission’s online database of public information on every American corporation.
8. Search government websites regularly. Follow the links they provide. The resources listed are most likely to lead to legitimate business sources.
9. Help your kids with their homework! Fill in the gaps in your elementary school education.
10. Volunteer. There’s always training and often certification available.
